As we enter a new decade…What’s hot for women’s hair in 2010? by James Brack
These days hairstyles coma and go and are ‘in’ and ‘out’ of trend just as often as a new style of clothing hits the high street. Hair styling is a fashion element in its own right, forming an essential part of the ‘look’ that you are trying to create. So, look no further than our overview to the hot trends for the year ahead.
It is said that a change will do you good, and this is very much the adopted philosophy for women’s hair over the upcoming year. We want to get as many different looks as we can out of any one haircut meaning that versatility is the key when it comes to selecting our new doo!
Fringes will retain their popularity this year. Whether it is a long sweeping one or a shorter more structured style, these soft face frames will still be favourable. There will be a shift towards longer hair this year, as previously mentioned people will be striving for versatile cuts. Due to the nature of longer hair it tends to offer more ways of being styled than a shorter cut. Long hair suits most body and face shapes and the looks that can be achieved are endless.
Braided hair and plaits will be big this year. Deriving from the ‘milkmaid’ style that surfaced last year, this style featured heavily on the spring 2010 catwalk and therefore is sure to be interpreted in different ways up and down the country.
As far as up do’s go, this year will see the renaissance of the bun. More specifically the chignon Originating from the French "chignon du cou" (which means "nape of the neck"), a chignon is an elegant low bun or twist that sits at the nape of the neck. Elegance is the key to carrying off this year’s up dos, they should ooze sophistication.
When it comes to Hair Colouring, bold and bright will win out this year. We will move away from the subtle ‘blended in’ colourings of 2009 towards more brash and contrasting compositions. Bold blues, deep purples and platinum whites will be seen, with the latter being particularly fashionable on people with very dark, almost black hair, as highlights. Red heads will be desirable this year, with those not naturally blessed with these rich locks reaching for the colour bottle. Fiery and bright tones will be popular.
